A Gold and Tropical Celebration for baby “B”

A few weeks ago, I got to host and style a celebration of a different kind – a Baby Shower! I feel most comfortable styling bespoke kids parties, but it was my bestie’s Baby Shower (the 3rd, and last, Becks!) was held at the glowing Mama’s venue of choice, Killarney Country Club, in Houghton.

KCC recently did a whole range of renovations, with some new spaces to host functions exactly like this (along with some 5-a-side soccer fields)! The venue allowed us to bring in our own cake and some Halaal snacks, whilst still providing some tasty appetizers and scones – what is a high-tea styled Baby Shower without scones with jam and cream?!

Becks didn’t want anything overly ‘girly’, but allowed me my moment of glory in celebrating the arrival of a baby girl into their family, finally, by adding in subtle pops of pink. Baby B’s nursery will have a tropical leaf theme, so I knew I needed to rope in the expertise of the wonderful Leeandra, from Fields of Colour, to help bring my vision to life. What an absolute honour it was to work with Lee and her team, such professionalism and they are absolute pro’s at what they do, I cannot recommend them highly enough. From the tropical leaf installation on the gold pipe structure my amazing husband had built and sprayed with a new favourite of mine (Rust-Oleum), to the lady of honour’s favourite tulips on the table, the black and white runners and the gold underplates – Fields of Colour brought the ‘chic’ and class I wanted the Shower to have.

With my main dessert table styled – and finished off with a gorgeous gold wooden ‘baby’ sign (a popular order through Bunting + Blooms!) all we needed to top it off was a beautiful cake creation. Cara, from Aristocakes baked a glorious double height light pink ombre cake with flecks of gold. This beauty was made up of a delicious pink ombre sponge, with strawberry filling, which the ladies absolutely loved! Thank you, Cara, for this wonderful pink creation! I added in a Coconut Pie, jars full of caramel popcorn, mini berry-topped chocolate mousses and special friends brought in mounds of fresh fruit (perfect to balance out all the sweetness), a tasty baked cheesecake and a platter of delicious savoury snacks to round off our tea – it truly does take a village. No dessert table would ever be complete (in my opinion) without the works of art of Sugar & Paper. I ordered the most gorgeous tropical leaf-themed cookies from Liezl and was once again blown away by the intricacy and detail she delivers with each and every cookie – there is no better cookier in Johannesburg, I assure you.

In continuing the theme of ‘popping’ I ordered Hazelnut Rocher Gourmet Popcorn in white and gold cones from Maverick and Jane as favours for the guests which I added simple tropical design thank you tags to – the perfect sweet treat.

I added in a washing line strung with twine and fern leaves pegged between plain white babygrow’s that Becki could take home to use for her sweet little princess – one can never have too many of these, an A1 poster on an Easel carrying through the design from the invitation, and giant clear bubble balloon filled with gold sequins. I sprayed wooden baby blocks pink with Rust-Oleum to stack in small arrangements amongst the gorgeous tulips, bringing in a little more pink (yes, we needed more pink!), which kept the table simple, but classy.

None of my functions would ever be the same without my fabulous photography partner, Corinna, from Corinna Tannian Photography. A stickler for detail (we’re one and the same), my wonderful friend, you bring all my hard work to life through your lens – thank you for always being there and capturing the magic.

It was a beautiful morning getting to celebrate the impending arrival of this ‘Auntie’s’ Princess. My precious little girl, you are arriving into a world where you are so incredibly loved already, I hope one day you look at this and know so much love was poured into this special celebration for you and your beautiful Mama, who I adore beyond words.
