TUTTI FRUITTI Sophie is a cutie!

On the 6th April we got to celebrate the birth of our FOUR year old on her actual birthday for a change. Amidst every single (and I have several!) Weather app telling me we were in for ‘dangerous thunderstorms’ and ‘multiple showers in the morning’ – our morning-scheduled birthday party day rolled around and the ominous clouds miraculously cleared!

We decided on the fun and colour-popping theme of TUTTI FRUITTI last year already – Soph, with her love for all things fruity, this theme was a no-brainer and I had such fun styling it and playing around with all the colours and fruity elements. When I saw this dress pop up on Kapas Baby, I knew we had to order it for Soph – there couldn’t have been a more perfect dress for the occasion! Putting her whole look together was another incredible bow headband from Seriously Stylish Baby – as we all know how obsessed my sweet child is with her hair accessories.

Venue

Once again, we decided to hire out Tembali Party Park in Chartwell for Soph’s party (in fact Oli is insisting on it too for his party in August) as it really is my absolute favourite venue. It’s not cheap, but the facilities and various areas are second to none. The zipline was a huge hit with the older kids, whilst the others rode around on the bike track, dug in the sandpit, rode in the plane and slid down the slides. As a party planner I’ve seen and worked with various venues, and the team of staff at Tembali are genuinely amazing and go out of their way to help and set up. Their beautiful undercover area was going to be a lifesaver should we have had torrential downpours and I found it to be such a phenomenal ‘blank canvas’ to work off and style. The gorgeous wooden beams were the perfect space to decorate with brightly coloured material bunting from Powwow Teepees – who make all the Bunting + Blooms bunting.

Food

I find a morning birthday party so much easier, and in fact cheaper, to cater for than an afternoon or lunchtime one. Obviously with this theme a generous amount of fruit was necessary – the perfect balance to all the sweetness of a party – and then generous mounds of delectable pastries from Fournos. Our Nespresso machine worked it’s magic with some delicious Limited Edition coffee capsules, keeping the adults more than happy, along with some cooldrinks. For the kids we offered Fruit Punch or water to be poured from dispensers into mini glass bottles, with reusable Fruit-inspired straws I sourced that the kids could rinse and take home to enjoy again and again. Of course there were my signature personalised water bottles – how cute – that will convince even the toughest little crowd to drink water.

Cake

Cara from Aristocakes came up with her own creation for Soph’s celebration – going for a realistic fruit inspired three tier cake made up of a watermelon, half-peeled orange and a pineapple, adorned with smaller fondant fruit sculptures. Thank you once again for delivering this TUTTI FRUITTI spectacle!

Candy Table & Décor

With the TUTTI FRUITTI cake as our centrepiece, I flanked the cake with some bright yellow ceramic pineapples on up-turned wooden crates I had spray painted with Rust-Oleum. I decided to use the 6 core colours in the sweet treats that were in various jars and bottles – from pink rock candy, to incredible fruit-themed cookies from Sugar & Paper that were so realistic that more than one child asked if they were fruit or cookies! I added in orange jelly cups with chewy jelly orange slices (a blast from the past for some of us adults), some incredible chocolate covered Oreo’s that looked like slices of lime (again, the amazing Sugar & Paper) and then two ‘strawberry patches’ with the yummiest baked cake pops ever with tiny strawberry flowers – these had the kids clambering for more. Jars filled with caramel-coated popcorn, pink peach-flavoured jelly beans and and chewy banana sweets rounded off the table of treats that had  their little faces lighting up, especially that of the birthday girl!

Décor

I picked six main colours to go with my theme and by using the same design elements through-out the party, it creates continuity and a cohesive theme. From Orange you hungry, let’s eat posters by the breakfast food, to a welcome A1 easel welcoming guests with foil orange and lemon balloons and a Let’s Paint Something Tutti Fruitti sign, to the personalised gift tags and water bottles – the design elements tied the theme up beautifully. I created a watermelon-pink backdrop board for the candy table with a bespoke laser-cut ‘Sophie’ in gold that can now be added into her bedroom as a beautiful reminder of her special day. The pièce de résistance was my handmade balloon garland in the party colours including some amazing marbled green balloons that looked like watermelon rind! The beautiful coloured bunting, and yellow and white striped tablecloth that Celia from Powwow Teepees made me, helped bring in extra pops of colour in all the right places. The recurrent theme of pineapples brought a fresh touch of life to the party, from the real life pineapples were complimented by the gold pineapple toothpick toppers in the pastries, the yellow ceramic pineapples on the candy table and the pineapples I created out of glittery green card and glazed doughnuts helped carry the theme through.

Party Favours and activity

Even with a venue that offers so much in terms of fun, I always like to add in an arts and crafts element – especially since Soph absolutely adores this in any medium. I covered the fabulously long Tembali table with brown paper to lessen the mess, provided each child with a disposable art apron and then provided loads of different coloured Teddy Junior Acrylic paints and Dala paint brushes to get creative. Inside each child’s favour bag was a Dala box canvas and a 10 well paint palette. The kids had to opportunity to paint something TUTTI FRUITTI by using their canvases and then got to take home their dried masterpieces with a cleaned palette and paint brush. I handmade cherries out of Dala cherry-red pom poms – there’s a short tutorial coming soon on that – and then added the personalised You are cherry sweet name labels. A favour and party activity all in one that I think the kids really enjoyed!
