Let me start by saying, this product arrived at home, out of the blue, a few weeks before Christmas as a gift from the brand. There were no strings attached to review or punt it, but this product is that good that I have to tell you about it!
I’ve been using optiphi® products for 7 months now and I am so impressed with the results I’ve seen. From the Facial Cleanser, to a 30/30 Chemical Peel I was treated to at Life Day Spa Rosebank, to my favourite of the lot – the Intense Retinol Serum.
For those of you beautiful ladies who aren’t familiar with the buzz word ‘retinol’ that makes its way across any beauty fiend’s lips, this could be your new best friend (and don’t worry, up until the beginning of last year I was properly clueless as to what this even meant). What’s a serum? A serum is what I add on top of my standard skincare regime – its primary goal is to boost the skin, targeting fine lines, wrinkles or dehydration made up of tiny molecules that is absorbed rapidly, and deeply into the skin. It’s not a cheap product to add to your regime, but for me it’s the most worthwhile.
Now that we all understand serums, what’s retinol? It’s always advisable to be extra sun-savvy with your skin if you’re using retinol. You need to be cautious with this active ingredient, and you can expect some redness, and dry and flaking skin as your face gets used to it. How do you use it? If your skin isn’t used to retinol, it’s better to start off using it a couple of times a week, gradually building up to once a day, with night time being the optimal time to apply. I use two pumps of this serum, which covers my face and neck area, and use this directly after cleansing, before my moisturiser. I’ve spoken to a couple of people who have said it’s quite rich for their skin, but I haven’t found this.
The Intense Retinol Serum from optiphi® is award-winning for a reason! The anti-aging serum is designed to promote cellular rejuvenation, containing the highest concentration of retinol in their active range (0.3% Retinol). Does the product deliver on its promises, absolutely, yes! I’m particularly fussy when it comes to the smell of a product on my skin. It doesn’t have to smell like roses but I don’t want to gag – and we all know that reflex is strong with me. This product has a very subtle smell, something that doesn’t bother me in the slightest, so that’s a major win in my book.
The packaging is like nothing else on my dresser. The scarlet red rectangular, airtight casing is sleek and innovative, with my only slight criticism being that I can’t see how must product I have left.
What results have I seen? As I’ve already mentioned, I started using this product the very day it arrived in December – so it’s been almost two months of using this as my sole serum. I’ve had skin texture issues for the past few years and I can 100% feel a noticeable difference on my right cheek as a result of this product. I’d definitely say it’s had more of an impact on my skin texture than fine lines, but I’m going to continue using it in the hopes that those bad boys erase themselves, even a little.
As far as value for money goes, a 30ml Serum retails for roughly R1 362.00 and a little goes a long way if applied correctly. Serums are always on the pricey end of the beauty spectrum, but there’s a reason for that, they contain active ingredients that are always going to cost more, because they do more. I won’t bore you with the lengthy list of ingredients that I can’t decipher half of, all I’m going to say is try it, this is a brand that knows what they’re doing. They understand skincare and our needs. I think this serum trumps my old-favourite, Clarins Double Serum, it’s that good.
Look here for all the stockists of the optiphi® product, and do yourself a favour and book a few optiphi® 30/30 Chemical Peels at a participating spa or salon, I’m so looking forward to treating myself to a few more to get maximum results.
*I was sent this product as a gift, with no strings attached, but I have absolutely adored using this serum so much that I decided to review it for you!
