We love holidays of any sort in our home, and we celebrate them all! Halloween for us is a little more about the kids swopping treats and dressing up, than the ghoulish, dark-side of the holiday. This year we’ll be joining Killarney Country Club for their fantastic family event and we’ve been making some little DIY Halloween gifts (instead of the usual treats) to swop with our friends that are also attending.
Here are two simple ideas (each of my children decided they wanted their own ‘gift’ to swop) for a cute Halloween treat – I hope they bring you some inspiration!
Buggs and Kisses treat bag
I simply could not resist making these for my own little Buggy (I’m sure by now you’ve cottoned on to her nickname) to hand out. Simple clear packets I bought from West Pack Lifestyle were filled with delicious sweets from Wonderland Sweets (where else could I find Halloween-themed sweets and imported Hershey’s Kisses at such a good price). Wonderland Sweets can be found at Northlands Décor Park, New Market Rd, Hoogland, Randburg, – and they’re stocking everything from frogs to fingers this Halloween season at R39.90 for 800g – so go pay them a visit! With themed sweets in the bag, all that was left to add were some bugs and creepy crawlies from Party Spot, and I designed a simple fold over bag label to seal the bag with.
A little light for Halloween Night
Oli is obsessed with torches, lights of any sort and of course glow sticks, so this was an easy solve for me. I bought the glow sticks from West Pack Lifestyle – R69 for 100 glow sticks, and then designed some cute tags to go with them. “A little light for Halloween night. Love, Oli” – simply cut two slits carefully with a craft knife on either end of the tag and thread the glow sticks through.
These ideas are both easy and effective, and I think they’ll be a great hit with all Oli and Soph’s little friends this Halloween.
So where will we be celebrating this year?
This year, KCC will be hosting some Halloween fun on Saturday 27th October at 7pm, in the Chrystal Room. What will the event cost you? R100 per child (adults are free and only pay for any food or beverages ordered), which includes Cheesy Brains (aka Macaroni Cheese), popcorn and a fruit juice or water, as well as a unique ‘drive in’ experience watching Hotel Transylvania 3. The kids get to sit in parked golf carts (it’s first come, first served so get there early) while they enjoy some Halloween fun in a safe space. To book, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call (011) 442 7411. Just a note, space is limited and booking is essential, so ensure you do this to not arrive disappointed on the night. there’s a prize for Best Dressed – I can’t wait to see all the creations! Will we see you there?
