{Giveaway – WIN a personalised eating plan} Let’s get healthy!

You know what they say, ‘summer bodies are made in winter’ – and guess what, ‘they’re’ right.  I love being in the kitchen, cooking and baking with Soph. I love food. In fact, before deciding to go down the PR route, I was ready to enrol at Silwood School of Cookery. I thought it would be hilarious that I’d be known as ‘Chef Cook’ (my maiden name). Half way through my matric year, after watching Sliding Doors for the umpteenth time (the 1998 movie starting Gwyneth Paltrow), I decided I wanted to do events and Public Relations much like Helen in the movie – without the being fired part obviously. I digress, let’s just say I really enjoying cooking, and the delicious meals that go with it but after having children I really need to watch what I eat or the kilo’s pile on!

I’m on a continuous journey to get back to my pre-baby weight (a lot of us are, right?), which, unfortunately for me happens to be my wedding weight. I was comfortable in my skin then, and had confidence. Carla, a Health and Fitness Expert from Carla Smith – The Fitness Expert, has come to my aid and designed me a personalised eating plan, to help me reach my goals and regain a healthy lifestyle. Seriously, only after having babies did I get a sweet tooth, thanks kids! After a lifestyle, risk and nutrition screening she drew up a personalised plan for me.

I started with Carla’s eating plan, intermittently at first, but I could already feel the change in my body. After a Discovery Wellness Day at our company a couple of weeks ago, I felt relieved and a sense of accomplishment about my body, finally! I’ve decreased my Vitality age by 5 years, my waist measurements have gone down by four centimetres – the kick up my proverbial, generous backside that I needed, and the motivation I needed to continue on this journey.

A big thing for me has been to eat smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. Before Carla’s plan, three cups of coffee would substitute ‘breakfast’ – don’t ever skip breakfast!

Here’s a quick and simple smoothie breakfast my family loves:

Strawberry and Banana Smoothie

1 tbsp honey

2 bananas

350g strawberries (I just used the frozen variety from Woolies)

330 ml coconut water

200g plain, unsweetened yoghurt

Put all the ingredients into a blender or NUTRiBULLET and blend until smooth. I like to add in a tsp or so of cinnamon too. There really are no limits to what you can add into a smoothie – it’s a fabulous way to pack in extra nutrients and hidden veg for the kids too. So simple!

With some simple pre-planning and packing my meals the night before, I’m not ‘too lazy’ to skip a meal. My body responds well, as do most people, to no or low carbs – I had amazing results whilst Banting a couple of years ago, and found my headaches decreased immediately once eliminating those pesky but delicious carbs. Instead of drinking fizzy drinks, I buy the flavoured, sugar-free waters from either Woolies (the Strawberry and Mint one is my best!) or the Seltzer Grapefruit and Strawberry flavour. The fizz seems to trick me into thinking it’s a treat!

  1. The meal plan takes the work out of trying to figure out what to make and purchase every week. It saves me lots of time and worry when its time to grocery shop and it actually makes it fun to prepare meals! I will look forward and enjoy shopping for groceries. I’m really excited to see where I end up in the next few months if I win 🙂

  2. Because I am 5kgs heavier then I was 2 weeks after having my second baby (2 years ago) 🙁 I am struggling with what to eat and when and an eating plan will help eliminate the need to snack and therefore never loose this extra weight I have on me. seriously holding fingers #bodygoals

  3. Ive been trying to lose weight in like forever….I just can’t do it,Ive lost my self confidence….I keep hitting a plateau where I dont go down…also it takes so much money and with my cysts on my overies it makes it almost impossible…I need help

  4. I had amazing results while banting before I had my kids. 3 years and 2 babies later and I find myself battling – not with the lack of desire to try and eat healthy, but with finding the time between my day job, my 2nd job, being a wife to my husband, a fun playful mom to my 3-year old daughter and a caring nurturing mom to my 6-month old daughter to plan our meals and enforce my beliefs about following a healthy sustainable eating plan/lifestyle. I’ve worked super hard to almost lose the 22kg I gained during my last pregnancy (still have 3kg to go) and I would LOVE to win this prize. It would give me more time with my family and help me to establish healthy eating habits in my kids’ lives, and hopefully lead to them having a positive outlook on their bodies and food. I would do ANYTHING to prevent them from facing the demons of poor body image and crash diets that I’ve had to face and conquer as an adult.

  5. Just given birth to my second child and would love to have someone do the thinking and planning for me takes the hassle out of trying to work out a healthy eating plan while juggling two kids and the demands of a newborn. It will be a great way to get back into the habit of healthy eating and help shed the extra baby weight in time for summer
