Creating instant memories with the Instax SQ6

So, by now you will know how we went on holiday to Hermanus for a family holiday, and how the trip didn’t go exactly as planned (read more here), but we still got to make some incredible memories (leaving Sophie’s accident and my step-mom’s hospitalisation firmly off this list), and I had the Fujifilm Instax Square SQ6 Instant Photo Camera along with us to capture all of them as we went!

From the walks on the empty pristine white sandy beaches, to adventuring at the old harbour desperate to spot a whale (which we never did), walks down the Hermanus Cycle trail, baboon spotting in the streets (or gaboon as Sophie called them), reed shelter building with cousins, making fairy secrets (one armed) with shells collected, incredible fynbos admiring, a windswept Sunday watching the kite surfers at the Lagoon to special family time we will be forever grateful for.

This little beauty (I mean – how gorgeous is that blush gold?!) retails for R1889 on Takealot, with the square film pack of 10 retailing for R189 – is the perfect Christmas buy if you’re ready to get shopping! For those wanting the features of the camera, here you go:

Produces 2.4 x 2.4″ Square Images

Fujinon 65.75mm f/12.6 Lens

Optical Viewfinder with Target Spot

Selfie Mirror Integrated on Lens

Built-In Flash and Auto Exposure Mode

Light/Dark Mode, Double Exposure Mode

Macro Mode Minimum Focus: 11.8″

Includes Colored Flash Gels

So what did we think of it? (I say we, because Oli had a few turns with it too) – this lightweight camera weighs in at 393 grams, is a simple and fun camera to take along for any instant memories. The kids got so excited waiting for each picture to appear and still swear it’s magic – which, maybe it is. The settings were easy enough for somebody as tech challenged as me to figure out (after one or two blurry shots, oops) and we even (successfully) tried the selfie mirror out. All in all, the perfect accompaniment to our holiday adventures! Would we recommend it? Absolutely! Although the film is pricey, and it’s a bit of a gamble as you never know if your eyes will be closed or not, we absolutely would recommend it. If you have a bigger budget, you can buy a Fujifilm Instax SQ20 Instant Photo Camera or Fuijifilm Instax Mini LiPlay Hybrid Instant Camera, both of which have digital capabilities so you can see what your photo will look like and choose whether or not to print it, amazing right!
